Serbian Viktor Troicki found himself in the quarterfinals of the Serbian Open defeating Spaniard Marcel Granollers in straight sets 6:3, 6:4.
”Today I was relaxed and felt that I had control of the match and therefore I am satisfied”, said Troicki.
Granollers had a break point early in the first set, but Troicki responded and saved the break and taking the lead to 2:1. Granollers held his serve to equalize, but then Troicki took matter in his own hands to stroll through to a 5:2 lead and once again taking his service game to love. Troicki took the first set 6:3 in just 34 minutes.
In the second set Granollers took the first break of the set to lead 3:1 but failed to take control of the set. Troicki gained momentum which lead to series of unforced errors from Granollers which brought the result to 3:3. The Serb took the next break, then served to take the lead to 5:3 and capitalized. The Spaniard held serve saving three match points and eventually losing 6:4.
Troicki now awaits to play the winner of the Serbian face off between tournament favorite Novak Djokovic and Janko Tipsarevic which is scheduled to be played tonight at 8pm.
“Djokovic is without a doubt the favorite but I am sure that Janko will play his heart out. It is always odd for me to play either of the two but that is tennis and whoever wins I will be facing a tough challenge”, stated the twenty-three year old Serbian tennis player.
